Early Rising Poet

A poem

I am an early rising poet
the sky still dark on payday
I’m up with a destructive dog
and a borrowed budget
the cat’s not helping either
I’m doing my best to tune out,
wash away a poor night’s sleep
with my Country Soul Songbook
mug and a strong belief in Friday
and the end of October
