Sticking To A Schedule Is A Great Way To Meet Goals
“First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories. Inspiration won’t. Habit is persistence in practice.” -Octavia Butler
What is your best writing time? Are you up before the sun like I am? Good morning! That is my very best time to write, and I have a feeling I am not alone. I do write other times of the day, but I seem to wake up with the most creative energy, and this energy wants me to work.
I think part of this energy is due to being a teacher (coffee). It could also be that I have an intense dream life. The idea well is deep.
But the habit to write in the morning, I credit to The Artist’s Way:
I do know that working consistently at something over time improves that something. Since my goals for December include posting every single day, I hope that this practice is improving my craft as a result of my intentions.
When you find your best writing time, stick with it.
So, I have this habit thing down for writing. Now, I need to find the same commitment to exercise!
Thank you for reading. My name is Samantha. I teach 5th graders everything from Language Arts to How to Be a Good Human. I also teach creative writing classes, workshops, and lessons. I still want to be a writer when I grow up.
