Planning, Persistence, Patience, and Reaching Out to Others
My 2020 Motto
We have all heard the “One Word” for the new year exercise. These words are supposed to become a mantra for daily living. Words like intention, love, compassion, environment, friendship are declared and written on post-its to put on the mirror.
This year, Itxy Lopez asked me to come up with a motto for the year. A motto could still be one word, but I chose several words that sum up my focus for 2020.
Planning, persistence, patience, and reaching out to others.
The first three words are really about setting goals and seeing them through. I am all about planning. I have my Passion Planner, my bullet journals, my lesson planner, my sketch books. I am constantly making lists. I teach full-time, so pretty much 80% of my career is spent planning.
But plans do not always stay plans. Sometimes they are half-projects. Sometimes I lose interest, or it was just too complicated in the first place to stay consistent. This year I am devoting my energy to seeing my goals through to the end through persistence and patience.
This goes without saying, but poets on Medium are scraping the bottom of the barrel. I am a poet. I write for free anyway, but I did think that I could earn some extra money here. However, I am committed, and I am persistent. Writing takes patience anyway. I have time.
The reaching out to others is a huge goal of mine. I want to help in the best way I know how. I want to help bridge people and build community. I believe strongly that we are here on earth to love others, and that is what I will continue to do.
What is your motto for 2020?
