Who Wants to Be a Hundredaire?
I want one of my stories, poems, essays, journal entries to go viral (to start). There, it’s said. It’s out there. Can you spread the word?
Look, breaking into the viral story scene isn’t easy. Hell, breaking even every month isn’t either. Especially for us poets here.
I imagine there is some secret list of names. These names own the hashtags and the followers. These people own the snowball of income that comes with popularity, even if the writing is so-so. It’s like people who are famous for being famous, whatever that means.
I want to be on that list. I want an idea to stick around for a while. But I don’t need to be famous for being famous. I’m a teacher. Everywhere I go, I see people I know, or once knew, or taught at some point and now they are married with kids.
What I need is an extra hundred dollars a month (to start).
What would you do with an extra hundred dollars?
Would you buy groceries? Pay off debt? Get a socially-distanced pedicure?
I do not write for the money. I write to breathe, as I have said, but earning a decent side-gig income from the thing I am most passionate about would be a real treat.
