Write Your Heart Out
Someone might need your words right now
Listen up writers.
You may think your stories are going unread. You may check your stats and think that you do not have what it takes. You may sigh at the poem which has only earned you .01, and you think you’ll never have enough readers.
Stop that negative self-talk right now.
I do not claim to be an expert in writing. I do not even believe this is an original idea to write about. But what I do know after writing since I was a kid, teaching writing for 21 years, and writing on platforms like Medium, someone out there might need your words right now.
Think back to why you want to write at all. Do you breathe words like air? Do you love the feel of your fingers on the keyboard? Do you get excited over pens and notebooks? Who were your original writer influences? Who taught you to write your heart out?
Maybe you enjoy the act of writing and you have been encouraged by teachers, friends, and family to keep doing it.
Maybe you need writing to help you process your healing, your growth, your whirlwind of ideas.
Who are the writers you admire? Which words made you swoon or left you thinking about a book years after you finished it?
If you have any passion at all, you can write. It may not be perfect or your best work, but showing the world that you are learning too is a good thing. We are all students of each other, and someone out there needs your words right now.
